Wellness Wednesday - Skincare

Hey Loves...it's that time of year when we wanted to make sure our skin is looking its best. Whether your at a BBQ or a Wedding, you always want you face you appear healthy. One way to make sure your skin is at it's best at all time is to start a daily routine, and your never to young or old to take control of your skin.

Over the years I have used many products and I have 2 brands that I can say are my staples. I LOVE the skincare products from The Body Shop www.thebodyshop.com. The majority of their products are "Naturally Inspired" product which are made from "Fair Trade" ingredients from all over the world. I love this because not only are they using products that are good for me and my skin, but they are also paying people a fair wage for their hard work ,which in turns allows the person to better provide for their family....so everyone is a winner. The second brand that I use is Ann Webb www.skinbyannwebb.com. She is an Austin based Medical Esthetician and she also has a school right here in Austin. Ann Webb also uses natural products in her skincare line and NO animal testing for either brand.

With my basic skincare routine I follow these 3 simple steps: Cleanse, Tone, and Moisturize. It is important that you find products that work for your skin. Just because it works for your friend does not mean it will work for you. So let me start with my steps.

CLEANSE -
DAY:  In the morning I use the Seaweed Deep Clean Face Wash (The Body Shop). I love this product because in the summer time, my skin can tend to be oily in the T-Zone. Seaweed is great for combination to oily. It's not drying, but it leaves my skin feeling extra "fresh".

NIGHT: Before bed I ALWAYS cleanse my face with either a facial wipe or actually washing. NEVER... EVER... go to bed with makeup on...if you wear makeup, ALWAYS CLEANSE. I use Peppermint Milk Hydrating Cleanser. (Skin By Ann Webb). What I love about this cleanser is that it helps to hydrate the skin as well as help the skin retain water. For me, I'm all about putting the moisture back into my skin. As much as we don't like to look oily, at night is when I slather it on, lol.

TONER -
DAY and NIGHT: I use Seaweed Clarifying Toner (The Body Shop). It is an alcohol free toner which purifies the skins as well as removes any excess dirt, oil, or makeup. Toners are also used to "seal" up the pores and this one also leaves skin looking shine free. I like using a toner because it does pick up on a lot of the dirt and makeup you may leave behind.

MOISTURIZE -
DAY: This is a very importat step in your regimen. No matter your skin type, all skin needs to be moisturized, you have to find what works best for you. I use the Seaweed Mattifying Moisturizer (The Body Shop) with or without SPF 15. Depending on what I'm doing for the day will determine if I use SPF, but if I'm going to be in the sun...SPF it is. I love this moisturizer because it does something that is very important to me, and that's mattify my skin. A mattifying moisturizer helps control the oiliness throughout the day and help control the shine. FYI....I LOVE THAT STUFF!!!

NIGHT: Remember, I said I love to moisturize my skin at night..well there is a reason for that. Our skin repairs and heals itself when we are in our resting state, so I make sure to apply my Vanilla Acai Youth Preserver. This stuff not only smells good, but it's good for you. It helps to soften fine lines and firm skin. Who doesn't want firm skin? I also make sure to apply to my neck because I don't want a tight face with a chicken neck...not a good look.

I recommend doing those 3 steps daily. You can also add more to your routine. I also use an eye mask, exfoliante, and mask. I use the eye cream or gel everyday and the others I use at least once a week.

Most people think receiving a facial is a treat...well it is, but is also a great health benefit to your skin. I recommend getting a facial at least once a month by a trained Esthetician. Find some who has experience on your skin type, especially if you have an ethnic background. That is very important because for darker skin tones, certain products my not work on your skin or be appropriate for your skin. I recommend getting a consultation, most are free or the price goes towards your facial. Also, make sure you are honest with your esthetician and let them know your skincare concerns. The more they know, the better your experience can be. I recommend places like The Natural Way, www,thenaturalwaymassage.com because they focus on the entire well being of the the body. So if money is type, The Natural Way offers wellness packages to suit everyone's needs.

Remember, you don't have to use the products I have listed here, but find products that work for YOUR skin type and YOUR skin care concerns. Find a licensed Esthetician that has experience working with your skin type. Don't be afraid to ask questions and do your research. And it's never to late to start a daily routine to enhance your skin or improve your skin, just remember to make time for you and take care of YOU FIRST!!! Until next time....Stay Fabulous!!!!
