Wellness Wednesday - My weight loss testimony.

When I stepped on the scale this morning,  it said 248.2lb. It's heading back in the right direction and that's a plus. Keep pushing!!! With that being said, I want to share my testimony.... I want to share my struggle with my weight loss journey.  I know when most of you see me, you see this outgoing person, and for the most part I am. However there are days when I can't stand the way I look because of all this extra weight I have  carried around for almost 12yrs. I have my struggles especially when it's time to try on clothes...it's something about that damn dressing room mirror, I swear it's the devil, lol. I have my pity party and I get a little discouraged...but then I remind myself you can do this!!! Starting in January I became determined to lose 80-100lbs. I know that sounds drastic,  but most of you don't know how much I weighted when I started this journey. In January I weighted 256lbs...I was in shock!!! I have never been this heavy in my life. S...

Wellness Wednesday - How many more to go?!?!

This past month I've struggled to do any type of exercise or stick to my healthy eating habits. I knew before I stepped on the scale this morning, I was going to pay. The scales read 249.9lbs which was up from 246.3lbs...back up 3.3lbs. Not the downward trend I'm going for. This is to be expected because I started eating at McDonald's every morning.....not a good look. I have no one to be upset with except myself. I was eating any and every thing because I love food. And when it comes to food, the better it tastes...the more I want. Believe it or not, soda and sweet tea are my biggest culprits.. How do I expect to lose weight if I don't control what goes into my mouth? So, its the end of the month and I have started my "detox". No meat, breads, dairy, or sweets. I will eat fruits and veggies. I put it in my head, That I can and will do this. I would normally challenge myself to a 10 day detox, but I never stuck to it. I find 7 is my perfect number, and giving ...

Wellness Wednseday - Couch to 5K

I stepped on the scale this morning and I am happy to announce that I am down to 246.3lbs. That's a total of 8.1lbs since December. I will start my WalkB4URun training which is Black Girls Run version of Couch25K. If you are interested in participating in a BGR event, please check out them out here . It's been a while since I have been able to run consistently for over 2 miles and the training plan is designed to get me there. I'm still walking at work during my breaks and this week I have included 2lb weights for each hand. I am also doing my monthly detox, however, I have not been as consistent as I should be. I cheated on Monday and today, but I will get back on track tomorrow until the 31st. I have decided that I would like to weigh 200lbs by the first day of my trip to St. Martin for my 40th birthday. I have until June 21 to get there. By incorporating the WBUR training and a healthy, consistent diet, I can get there. What are your fitness goals to a healthier, lighte...

Wellness Wednesday - My Mojo is gone

I know I'm a day late and a dollar short, but I need to post this. I have lost my Mojo and I need to get it back!!! For the last few weeks I have been lacking on my workouts. I even forgot to weigh in yesterday, which I will make it up next time. But I have been so unmotivated to do anything and it's starting to show. I haven't been eating right and I haven't been moving as much. I will try and use the poor excuse that I've been working A LOT, which I have, but that's not a good enough reason to let my fitness goals not be just as important as work and my personal life. I was recently selected as the new ambassador for BlackGirlsRun Austin Chapter, and this is a role I take very seriously.  Black women hold some of the highest statistics when it comes to obesity and overall health.  BGR motivates me to not be a statistic. This group of ladies are always encouraging and supportive of on another, you can't help but succeed on your fitness journey when you'...

Wellness Wednesday - Getting back on track

For the last 2 weeks I must honestly say that I wasn't on my exercise routine. I stopped going on my walks during my lunch break as well as my regular break. As a result of that I have gained .5 pounds back so that bring my current weight to 248.2 pounds. I have no excuse except laziness, lol. However, we all fall off but it's how we get back up to continue  forward that matters. So I will go back to walking daily, because that was working for me. I will walk at least 3 mile or more miles daily. I also need to as come up with a plan that that will motivate me to exercise more and in different ways.  I need to start incorporating weight training as well as different cardio plans to my exercise routine. I will not let this very minor setback discourage me, but I will use this as an opportunity to reevaluate my exercise plan. What are some tips you can share with me on how you incorporate fitness into your everyday life? Please leave your comments below. Until next time...Stay Fa...

Wellness Wednesday - It pays to be consistent

When we are consistent we can see the fruits of our labor. And boy have I been trying to walking in the right path....literally and figuratively.  I'm making progress and it starting to pay off. As I stepped on the scale this morning I didn't have a certain number in mind of how much weight I wanted to lose, I just prayed the scale would go down. So I stepped on and it read, 250.3lb. I couldn't remember exactly how much it went down, but I knew it wasn't going up. It wasn't until I entered that number into my fitness app that I realized that I lost 2.9lbs!!! That's from 2 weeks ago. I'm super happy right now...and every pound lost is a victory for me. So remember to celebrate your weight loss, be it big or small. The overall outcome is to become a healthier me, and that's what is most important.  Until next time...Stay Fabulous!!!

Wellness Wednesday - Staying Motivated

Any time you embark on something new, it's always a journey. Losing weight is no different. What has really motivated me to get this lifestyle change kicked into high gear, is the fact that I turn.......40 years old in June. There I said...I think I will finally retire my said age of 29 ;-). Being a busy woman I must find extra ways to get in some form of work out. So as of now I walk at work. I am working a plan to incorporate more activities because a gym membership is not in the budget. But that's okay.  There are plenty of things I can do to burn calories. The bottom line is I want to be around for 40+ more years for my family. As a Black Woman I have so many odds stacked against me like high blood pressure, diabetes,  and some many more. I want to cut them out of my equation all together. The one thing I would recommend is meeting with a nutritionist to come up with a meal plan. I can get down in the kitchen, but it can get boring. So I will be talking with my high school...

Wellness Wednesday - On the right track

Hey loves, coming to you with a quick update. So as you know, I've been on my journey to be a healthier me. I use an app on my phone to track my steps and food intake. This helps me be accountable for getting my steps in daily. I've been walking just about everyday since Dec 16th. The walking is staying to pay off as I'm down 1.2lbs, bringing my weight to 253.3lb. I know it's not a huge drop, but it is moving downward. I would like to meet with a nutritionist to help me come up with a meal plan cause ya girl can eat and I love food, lol. So my new goal is to lose 2-3lb a week and come up with a meal plan to help my health journey. I have to cut back on sweets and my favorite, Big Red soda, lol. What are some tips you can share with me to help me along my journey? Until next time...Stay Healthy and Fabulous.

Wellness Wednesday - Progress on my journey

Merry Christmas to you all!!! I coming to you all real quick to give you an update on my weight loss journey. I haven't changed much of my routine as of yet. Last week, I went to the doctor because I had conjunctivitis, aka "pink eye". Of course I had to check my weight and I weigh 254.4 lbs. I don't know if this is an increase or decrease...but I want it to change. When I'm at work, I walk about 2 miles, and when I can, I also walk when I get home from work. I recently updated my phone to the Samsung Note 3 and I have the gear as well. I've been using the S Health app which tracks my steps and calorie intake. The steps are tracked automatically, but I have to enter my daily food intake. I have been averaging 8000 - 10000+ steps per day, which is 3 - 4+ miles a day. This helps me out so much, because my daily goal is to take 10000 steps. Some days I reach my goals, most I come really close. I need to work on my diet and I would like to get down to 2000 calorie...

Wellness Wednesday - Weight loss Journey

Hey loves, coming to you with my weight loss update. Sorry it's so late, but such is life. As you know, two weeks ago I started on a path to be more productive on weight loss journey. Last night I stopped at Bed, Bath, And Beyond and picked up one of those scales that measure your weight, body mass, water weight and something else. I had a scale at home, but I wanted an update scale like the one I purchased. Two weeks ago I stated my starting weight was 256lb, however, when I weighed myself I was fully clothed. This morning before I got dressed and put anything in my belly, I stepped on the scale an it read 258lb (side not...I'm blotted and Mother Nature paid a visit today). I will say my weight prior to this was probably 253lb without clothes. I haven't really gotten into gear like I need to, but I have started moving. At work I walk at least one mile on my breaks. I get two 15min breaks and I walk 1/2 mile each. I have also been making breakfast at home for the most p...

Wellness Wednesday - Working on me

Image
For the past few years I have tried to lose weight, but to no success I have failed. I'm the only person to blame. I'm not as active as I was 10-15 years ago because I was in the Army and I had no choice but to be active. My youngest child was born 11ys ago and since then my weight has skyrocketed to 256lbs over the past 11yrs.. I have never been super thin, but this is beyond embarrassing....and I'm ready for a true change. Army circa 1995 After my youngest son was born I did get down to a size 14, as I was breast feeding, but once I stopped breastfeeding I didn't do anything to get the remainder of the weight off. I was living in New Jersey after my husband and I got out of the Army. Jersey is where he is from so we moved there. Being a Texas girl, born and raised, I always wanted to live in other states...so that's exactly what we did. However, I didn't take into account how it would effect my social life. I had no friends or family there to help encourage m...

Getting to happy...

Day 3 of my detox is going great. I did slip up and have a Big Red, but I look at it as my coffee for the beginning of the day, O_o.... This is a lifestyle change I'm making to get to happy. Now let me explain what that is before I have people calling me and asking me if I'm ok....NO intervention need y'all. Getting to Happy is a journey I'm on to be a better me. I have so many goals and dreams that I want to share with the world, but before I can do that, I need to work on me. I'm the person you always want by your side because I'm very loyal,  loving, caring, and most importantly....CRAZY ASS HELL!!! In the most loving way possible of course ;-D. However, the one thing that makes me unhappy is my weight. That's why I'm making changes to improve it. I have no desires to be a size zero...I LOVE my curves, especially my ass. Not to big and not to small...it's just right.  I also want to lose weight for health reason.  In the Black community there are ...
