Wellness Wednesday - Ooooohhhh...just a little lower. Benefits of touch through massage.
Touch is such a huge part of our everyday life. A simple handshake to greet someone, a meaningful embrace shared between two friends, or the calming touch of a loving Mother... touch plays a major role in our everyday lives. Studies have shown that massage is not only good for the body, but it's just as good for the mind and well being.
For most of us we look at massage as something of a luxury, when actually it also has great health benefits. Some benefits include:
Improved Blood Circulation
Relaxation
Soft Tissue Stains
Detox
Lesson depression
Digestive Disorders

These are just a few benefits from receiving a massage on a regular basis. I recommend getting a massage at least once a month or more if you can afford to. Also, if you have a medical condition that requires therapeutic massage, check with you medical insurance company to see if they cover the cost of your massage and how often you can receive one.
Check to see if your spa offers a wellness plan like the spa I go to, The Natural Way www.thenaturalwaymassage.com on South Congress. Wellness plans are great because you pay one fee every month for your massage. What I like about The Natural Way is they are concerned about my overall well being and I'm not just a number to them. And they also offer facials to take care of my skin concerns.
Now depending on your need swill determine the type of massage you receive. Some types of massage include:
Swedish- User gentle, long strokes that can be used over the entire body.
Deep- Slower, forceful strokes to target deeper layers of muscles.
Sport- Similar to Swedish, but geared towards people involved in sports to help prevent injuries.

There are several types of massage out there, so make sure you discuss your needs with your therapist before you get started. A simple touch of the hand can change your entire mood. Remember massage is more than a relaxation tool, it's a health need as well. Until next time...Stay Fabulous!!!!
