Wellness Wednesdays - Benefits from steaming my hair.

Being a natural with 4B/C hair can be very challenging. Our hair tends to break and dry out very easily. That's why moisture is very important to a natural, especially one with a more tighter curl pattern. One of the ways I combat dryness is by steaming my hair at twice a month. There are many ways you can steam your hair if you don't own a hair steamer. Some ways include:

Sitting under a heated dryer with a plastic cap on. Make sure the hair is damp and you can also apply a deep conditioner

Applying a deep conditioner to damp hair and placing a plastic cap on your hear. Then wrap a warm or hot towel around head for 5-10 min, until towel is no longer warm.

Sit in your sauna or steam room at your local gym with plastic cap on while your relaxing, and don't forget to include the deep conditioner.

Some of the great benifits that I notice with hair steaming are:

Steam locks in more moisture to my hair, it's not dry or brittle once I steam
Hair is a lot softer after I steam...especially the next few days.
Product penetrates my hair a lot better because my cuticles are more open from the steam.
My scalp is not as dry or itchy when I steam.
I also like to add different oils to my steamer to seal in more moisture or refresh my scalp.

I personally own a steamer, so I able to just sit home and steam away. There are many companies out there that make home steamers, just do your research on the one that will best suit your needs. I own a Huetiful Hair Steamer  www.huetiful.com, and I love it. The only thing I don't like about the steamer is it's not adjustable for height. However, that is something I can live with.

Finding products that work best for you are just as important as treating your scalp well. I enjoy steaming my hair because it's relaxing and its good for me and my hair. I take care of it, and in return it will continue to grow. So treat yourself to a steam session....and thank me later. Until tomorrow...Stay Fabulous!!!
