Talk Tuesday - Confessions of a Shopaholic
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend that involved plenty of BBQ, beer, and great people to enjoy it with...safely I might add. With every holiday that comes around also leads to something else...something that gets me into trouble. That is holiday shopping and sales tend to make me a shopaholic. You know how they get you, "Spend $50 get $10 off or B1G1 Free". I get sucked in because I feel like I'm getting a great deal on a buy, which for the most is true. I'm one of those people that has every store rewards card, email link, and coupon books. I sign up for email coupons and reminders. If they offer it, I can't say no.
When there are sales, I feel like I'm missing out when I don't shop, lol. It's gotten to the point, that I will buy stuff just because it's on sale...and I may not need it. If it will earn me point...I will buy it. I even sign up for online websites to earn points just for shopping online. I like the fact that I will be rewarded for spending my money, money that I was going to spend anyway. Now, let's be clear...I'm not spending hundred of dollars at a time. It may be $30 here or $50 there....but the bottom line is that it all adds up. That money can actually go towards something more valuable like a vacation or an extra credit card payment. So what am I going to do about it?
Going forward I will only buy what the family truly needs and not shop just because it's on sale. I will have an occasional buy, but only after I have saved for it. I will also do most of my major shopping online to earn more rewards points, which I can later redeem for Gift Card to any place I like. That way spending my money is more rewarding. The moral of the story is, there is nothing wrong with shopping, just do it in moderation and try not to be a compulsive shopper and then turn around and have buyers remorse...like someone I know :-D. We all work hard and we should be able to treat ourselves...just remember to do it wisely. Until tomorrow...Stay Fabulous!!!
