Talk Tuesday - Not the way I wanted to return...
Today I wanted to make my big return to writing for my blog. I have so much to share with you and I was very excited for today, that was until I heard the news last night....
November 22, 2014 Cleveland PD MURDERED Tamir Rice, 12yrs old. This CHILD was at a park playing with a toy gun before a rookie officer took his life.
August 5, 2014 Beavercreek PD MURDERED John Crawford III, 22yrs old. Mr. Crawford was shopping in Walmart when the local police answered a call that an armed man was walking around the store. Mr. Crawford was in the store walking around with a pellet/BB Gun in his hands the he picked up off a shelf in the store. There is a video on the Internet that show Mr. Crawford throwing the gun down and falling to the floor as the cops approch him. It's unclear on what was said, because there is no audio on the video.
August 9, 2014 Officer Darren Wilson MURDERED unarmed Michael Brown, 18yrs old. Mr. Brown was walking in the middle of the street according to Officer Wilson. And if this is true, does that justify the officer in shooting an unarmed man 6 times, for walking in the middle of the street?
July 14, 2014 officers of the NYPD MURDERED unarmed Eric Garner. Death by Heart Attack which was triggered by the choke hold he was in place by the officers. Did I mention there is a YouTube video that shows Mr. Garner stating he couldn't breathe....while he was being choked? Take a few moments to imagine how you would sound and feel trying to speak and grasp for air at the same time?
All the men killed in these incidents were black...young black men who's lives ended abruptly. Last night the jury decided not to charge Darren Wilson in the MURDER of Micheal Brown. Yet again, another black man has been MURDERED. Honestly, what the fuck did you expect....JUSTICE...for a black man? GTFOH!!!! We live in a country that has NEVER respected a black man. Brought over in chains, made to be slaves, and broken until they could not take it anymore. Jim Crow continued that mindset of breaking the NIGGER down to make them feel less than, meaningless, invaluable, and less desirable.
I am reminded EVERYDAY what it means to be Black in America. And while I would not want to live in any other country in the world, we are a fucked up country. We acknowledge the Holocaust and sympathize with the victims of that tragedy...which took place in Germany. But we tell Black America to "Get Over" Slavery and the Jim Crow Laws of the South...say what now? You don't "Get Over" something like that. No matter how long ago it may have been, things still remain the same. Just space and time are different. Racism is real and it is alive and well in America. So the question is, when are we TRULY going to address the issue? Will we continue to sweep it under the rug or lie to one anther and say things are getting better. Or this one..."If we stop talking about Race, it won't be an issue". Tell that to the 2 black boys and 2 black men that were MURDERED this year along with other innocent black men.
You can also miss me with the "What about Black on Black crime and violence?". Guess what, blacks aren't the only one's who kill one another, so do other races. I'm so feed up and tired of reading about another black man being killed in America. While I'm happy that my children have yet to experience racism, I will give my boys "The Talk" and I remind them of the dangers in the world living as a Black Man. A talk, that a White or Asian parent will never have to make. I will speak with my daughter also, and advise her how to act if she ever has a situation with a police officer or what to do if she is with a group of friends and she gets singled out because she's Black. These are the talks that have become the normal in the Black household.
With the verdict of Not Guilty being given to Officer Wilson for the MURDER of Michael Brown, I understand the frustration from the people of Ferguson. While I don't agree with the looting and destructionof their own neighborhood, I do understand and feel the frustration they have. It's like constantly being beaten and beaten and beaten until you reach your breaking point...then you snap. You react the only way you know how, and that's with violence and disorder. But remember...REACTIONS are incidents caused by ACTIONS. Whether good or bad, the outcome will spark attention needed. I pray for the people of Ferguson today....but I pray for Black Families everyday.
Not feeling FABULOUS at all today....Be Blessed everyone.
