Wellness Wednseday - Couch to 5K

I stepped on the scale this morning and I am happy to announce that I am down to 246.3lbs. That's a total of 8.1lbs since December. I will start my WalkB4URun training which is Black Girls Run version of Couch25K. If you are interested in participating in a BGR event, please check out them out here . It's been a while since I have been able to run consistently for over 2 miles and the training plan is designed to get me there. I'm still walking at work during my breaks and this week I have included 2lb weights for each hand. I am also doing my monthly detox, however, I have not been as consistent as I should be. I cheated on Monday and today, but I will get back on track tomorrow until the 31st. I have decided that I would like to weigh 200lbs by the first day of my trip to St. Martin for my 40th birthday. I have until June 21 to get there. By incorporating the WBUR training and a healthy, consistent diet, I can get there. What are your fitness goals to a healthier, lighte...

Talk Tuesday - When did being a black woman stop being good enough.

The other day I was driving and this thought popped into my mind....When did being a Black Woman stop being good enough? I feel this is a very valid question because the black youth need to know they are enough,  ESPECIALLY the black girls. I love hip hop and rap mucis, but they are guilty of perpetuating what is considered to be the beautiful. You hear it in the songs..."I don't want her unless she looks exotic"....or "I want a bad yella bone". The list goes on on and on. Being from the south, I'm familiar with the whole terminology when it comes to the different skin colors in the black community.  "Light skin" vs "Dark skin" had always been an issue in the black community,  but it's certainly not exclusive to us.  However, I feel that we celebrate skin color for all the wrong reasons. When I was younger I was guilty of saying ignorant stuff, because that's what I was "taught". And when I say taught, I'm saying tha...

Wellness Wednesday - My Mojo is gone

I know I'm a day late and a dollar short, but I need to post this. I have lost my Mojo and I need to get it back!!! For the last few weeks I have been lacking on my workouts. I even forgot to weigh in yesterday, which I will make it up next time. But I have been so unmotivated to do anything and it's starting to show. I haven't been eating right and I haven't been moving as much. I will try and use the poor excuse that I've been working A LOT, which I have, but that's not a good enough reason to let my fitness goals not be just as important as work and my personal life. I was recently selected as the new ambassador for BlackGirlsRun Austin Chapter, and this is a role I take very seriously.  Black women hold some of the highest statistics when it comes to obesity and overall health.  BGR motivates me to not be a statistic. This group of ladies are always encouraging and supportive of on another, you can't help but succeed on your fitness journey when you'...

Talk Tuesday - Alikay Naturals

Image
This past weekend I hosted a natural hair meet up featuring Alikay Naturals products.  The meet up took place in Austin, TX at Chago's Caribbean Cuisine Resturant. It's a nice Mom and Pop's place that specializes in Puerto Rican food... I will discuss them later. I met an Alikay Brand Ambassador online and I wanted to know more about the products. Daniece is the San Antonio AK Brand Ambassador, but she was more than willing to share her product knowledge with us Austin naturals. Daniece is very knowledgeable about Alikay products and was able to recommend the best ones to use for our hair type and haircare concerns. The products are all natural and can be used on on any hair type, be it natural or relaxed hair.  Haircare is not the only products Alikay offers, they also make Bath and Body products. Another great thing about this company is that it is Black Owned and Female Owned. I support all types of businesses, but female owned businesses are near and dear to my heart ...

Wellness Wednesday - Getting back on track

For the last 2 weeks I must honestly say that I wasn't on my exercise routine. I stopped going on my walks during my lunch break as well as my regular break. As a result of that I have gained .5 pounds back so that bring my current weight to 248.2 pounds. I have no excuse except laziness, lol. However, we all fall off but it's how we get back up to continue  forward that matters. So I will go back to walking daily, because that was working for me. I will walk at least 3 mile or more miles daily. I also need to as come up with a plan that that will motivate me to exercise more and in different ways.  I need to start incorporating weight training as well as different cardio plans to my exercise routine. I will not let this very minor setback discourage me, but I will use this as an opportunity to reevaluate my exercise plan. What are some tips you can share with me on how you incorporate fitness into your everyday life? Please leave your comments below. Until next time...Stay Fa...

Talk Tuesday - All about me

This blog post may be taken out of context but that is not my intent. The title really sums up how I feel at this very moment.  Going forward I'm gonna focus on me, I'm going to support me, I'm going to promote me, and it will be all about MY goals. Time and time again I have always supported others because that is the type of person I am. Whether you had a new business or your child was graduating high school...I'm there rooting for you. However, I have come to the realization that some friends don't return that simple jester of being  a supportive friend. We all have them and I really don't think it's intentional. They always want you to attend this and donate that....but they can NEVER make it to any of your events and ALWAYS have an excuse to why the couldn't or can't make it. I'm sure I've done it myself at some point in a friendship, and I promise it was never intentional. I believe in supporting my friends and even strangers if they ha...
